Governor Cuomo receives high approval rating
A YNN-Marist College poll found 52 percent of voters are upbeat about where the state is going. The shift may have something to do with the man at the top. 58 percent of voters say the governor is doing an excellent or a good job and 76 percent of voters say they have a favorable impression of the governor. 68 percent say Gov. Cuomo is changing Albany for the better.
JCPenney eliminate sale – start new low pricing stategy
JCPenney says forget waiting for the sale. Beginning February 1, JCPenney will permanently mark down all of its merchandise by at least 40-percent. What that means is that shoppers will no longer have to wait for a sale to get the store’s lowest price. The plan is similar to Walmart’s everyday low pricing strategy but instead of undercutting all competitors, the aim for JCPenney is to take the guesswork out of shopping by offering more predictable pricing.
Greater Hornell Area Coin Show Saturday morning
The 5th annual Greater Hornell Area Coin Show, featuring antiquated and unique currency, is running today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arkport American Legion at 1 Carter St., in Arkport. Admission to the coin show is free. Students from the BOCES Wildwood culinary program will provide refreshments.
Child Safety Seat Check Point/Operation Safe Child ID February 4
Next Saturday the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and Livingston County Cornell Cooperative Extension will be conducting a Child Safety Seat Check Point and providing Operation Safe Child ID’s at the Lakeville DOT from 10 am until 2 pm. The public is welcome and have their child safety seats checked and get Operation Safe Child ID’s for their children,
Jogger struck by car passing a school bus
A jogger is recovering after she was hit by a car in the Town of York Friday. Livingston County Sheriff Deputies say Julie Smith of York was jogging on Fowlerville Rd., when she was hit by a vehicle was passing a school bus on a double solid line. Investigators say the driver of the car, Patrick Schlaefer of York, was issued several vehicle and traffic tickets. Smith was transported to the hospital for a shoulder injury.
Dansville Central School Transportation Dept. to receive safety adudit
In light of the accident Wednesday afternoon involving a student getting caught by her backpack in the door of a school bus the Dansville Central School District has ordered a transportation safety audit by the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute a non profit school bus safety organization. The purpose of the audit is to examine all transportation safety procedures. State Police say because it was an accident, the driver will not be charged.
Four Wayland men charged with burglary
Four Wayland men are in the the Livingston County Jail. 22-year-old Jimmie J. Lane, 24-year-old Michael D. Pragle, 20-year-old Justin M. Buzard and 18-year-old Shawn E. Roney, all of Wayland all have been charged with burglary.
Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies say the four stole items from an empty house as well as a garage in the Town of Sparta. Among the items stolen were a safe, jewelry and an ATV. Sheriff’s deputies say additional charges are likely.
Lane and another man, Matthew Stewart, were also arrested for a separate burglary early this month. Lane had been bailed out of jail following that arrest.
All four men were sent to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. The New York State Police assisted in the case.
Mother accused of DWI, assaulting a Deputy and leaving 15 month old home alone in court
A Canandaigua mother, accused of driving drunk, assaulting two deputies and leaving her 15-month-old child home alone, was in court this morning (Friday) Deputies say Vanessa Rosa was pulled over Wednesday morning on Route 364 in Canandaigua. She’s accused of kicking a deputy in the groin and spitting on him. After Rosa was brought to jail she then spit on a corrections officer.
In court today, the felony charges against Rosa were waived to county court and she answered to the misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child, harassment and misdemeanor DWI. The District Attorney’s Office says it will present this case to a Grand Jury next week.
Bail was set at $11,000 cash or $12,000 bond. Rosa is due back in court on April 4 on these charges. On March 5, she will be sentenced for a previous DWI.
Former Undersheriff Dave Cole makes run for Sheriff
Dave Cole, who ran unsuccessfully for the position of Steuben County Sheriff in 2008, announced has he will be making a run once again for the position. Cole served as under sheriff for former Sheriff Dick Twidell. Current Sheriff Joel Ordway announced this week he will not be seeking a second term. Ordway’s term expires December 31st of this year. Current Undersheriff Ray Dell has also stated he will run for sheriff and would like to seek the Republican nomination.
Joe Paterno laid to rest
Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno will be laid to rest Wednesday at a private funeral and burial service after thousands of mourners lined up to say goodbye. Paterno died Sunday at the age of 85.
