Governor Coumo ends finger printing process for Food Stamps recipients

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is ending the finger printing of recipients seeking Food Stamps.

He says the anti-fraud measure was turning away families who need the subsidy to help provide nutritious meals for their children.

He says 1 in 6 children in New York live in homes without enough food on the table, yet 30 percent of New Yorkers eligible for Food Stamps don’t get them. That’s more than 1.4 million people.

The action was praised by advocates for the poor. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, says Cuomo did simply the right thing.

Dansville Lions Blank Bank

Dansville Lions       15               Wayland Bank       O

On Saturday (May 12) the Dansville Lions were on the prowl at Victory Park in Wayland in cross-over little league baseball action. The Cats put a big paw down when they pounced on Bank scoring 8 big runs in the 3rd inning leading to lopsided 15-0 victory at the park of the same name on the hill. Dansville skipper Kelly Rounsville’s team put it all together with a 12 hit attack to go along with some stingy pitching & good defense.
Holden Schramm nailed down the win although he threw a lot of pitches early in the game. The hard-throwing rightie yielded just 1 hit while striking out 8 & walking 4. Hunter Little came on to close the door with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He also allowed just 1 hit while fanning 7 without a walk. On the offensive end Hunter Little was 2-3 with a double & a triple & scored twice…Dylan Race 2-3 with a double & scored twice…Holden Schramm 2-3 with a run scored…Tommy Wise scored one run…Chris Henry was 3-3 with a double & scored 4 runs…Colton Woolett was 1-3 with a double & scored once…Nick Rosica 1-1 with a run scored…& Shawn Wagner 1-1 & scored a trio of runs.

The battle of the Lions swung Dansville’s way in local little league baseball play on Knox Street in D-ville. The Dansville cats used a huge 9-run outburst in the 3rd & then let their pitching & defense do the rest in a 10-1 taming of the Wayland Lions. The big cats from Dansville got on the board in the home half of the first inning when lead-off man Hunter Little tripled & later scored on an error making it 1-0 in favor of coach Kelly Rounsville’s group. In the 3rd the Dansville Lions Club sent 14 men to the plate & utilized 5 key hits in plating 9 runs to put the game on ice. Dansville Girls Score Late to Bounce Bath

Dansville        6                     Bath-Haverling                2

Vengence was in the air at Babcock Park where the Lady Mustangs scored the last 6 runs of the game on Thursday (May 17) afternoon & bounced visiting Bath-Haverling in a 6-2 varsity softball final. The Lady Mustangs saw a 5-0 lead of their own slip away in Bath one week ago when the Rams came from behind to win. On this day, the proverbial “shoe was on the other foot.”
The blue & white scored single runs in the 3rd & 4th to take a 2-0 lead. Dansville overcame the deficit by scoring 3 times in the home half of # 4 & then tacked on a single run in the 5th with 2 more in the 6th to finish the job. Clarissa Swain hurled 7 innings for the win as she struck out 8, walked just 1 & allowed only 3 hits in the victory. Clare was 1-2 at the plate while she had plenty of offensive support. Arkport Surprises Dansville Softball

Arkport    7              Dansville      5

The Dansville varsity softball squad saw another lead sneak away on Wednesday (May 16) afternoon as the Lady Jays from Arkport swooped in for the kill after being down 4-1 late in the game. The Blue Jays took advantage of a couple of key Mustang errors & cashed them in for 5 runs in the 6th inning turning the tide of the contest as Arkport won it 7-5. The red & black plated 2 runs in the the 3rd & 4th innings to take a  4-1 lead over the pesky Blue Jays. Arkport pecked away & scored a run in the 5th, before the fatal 6th settled in for Dansville, who self destructed giving the opponents 5 outs( 2 huge errors), which coupled with some selectively placed hits would spell D-E-F-E-A-T for D-ville.
Dansville (7-9) Clarissa Swain again deserved a better fate as she went 6 strong innings allowing 6 hits, only 2 earned runs, while striking out 7 & walked 5. At the plate Billie Chappell was 3-4 with a pair of doubles & drove in  2 runs…Amanda Irish was 2-4 with a double, 2 stolen bases, an rbi & scored once…Kelsey Poplawski was 2-3 with a double & an rbi, scored twice & stole a base….& Kelsey Snyder finished 2-3 with a double & an rbi.
